Urchin
Urchin was my dear dog friend back in Virginia. He lived about a mile down the road from me. He wandered freely through the woods and mountains, and it was relatively safe for him to do so. It wasn’t long before he made his way to my house. We became instant and deeply bonded friends. Shortly after we met, Urchin began joining Buttercup and me for long walks. This became a daily ritual. Then one day, Urchin showed up at my house at about 7am and he stayed until dinner time! This became a daily occurrence and I finally realized that he showed up at my house as soon as his people left for work and he would go home when they returned from work. His mom got to where she would slow down in front of my house to look for him. If he was outside, or we saw her from inside, he would rush to the car and hitch a ride home. I loved that boy dog as much as I’ve ever loved any of my dogs. When I moved away I grieved deeply for Urchin. I will never forget his wonderful energy, kindness, and friendship. Sweet friend!
