Nikki
Nikki, my little love, I hope you are well!
Never a sweeter, braver little Beagle. While living in Virginia, a friend of mine, who lived next door to me, discovered Nikki while on a walk. Nikki lived about a mile down the road. My friend saw her one day and noticed that she was chained up outside and seemed somewhat neglected. My brave friend decide to inquire about Nikki. Long story short, we were given permission to spend time with Nikki. We first secured her fence so she could be off her chain. We then stuffed many bales worth of hay under her shed to create a warm place for her to sleep at night and during cold days. Then, we started walking her each and every day. She joined our little pack! When we first met Nikki she seemed depressed and shy. Over the weeks and months she opened up to all the joys of life!
She was a bundle of love and joy. Every time we arrived she would howl her delight! It didn’t matter the weather because I knew this little dog depended on us for daily love, exercise, and a little extra food. One night it was so cold. I couldn’t bear the thought of her being outside in such weather. I talked a couple of my friends into helping me steal her for the night! They drove the get away car and I sneaked into the yard and took her. I brought her back to my house thinking I’d return her in the morning and no one would be the wiser. I was wrong! The next morning I didn’t return her as early as I had planned. One of the kids went out to feed her and she was gone! Of course they knew right where to come look for her. When the owner arrived I apologized profusely, but I also told him that he knew it was too cold to leave her out. He agreed. So I asked if I could come get her on really cold nights and let her stay in my house. He agreed.
I moved from VA a couple of years later. I worried about Nikki but the owners would not give her up, even though I offered to take her several times. I can only hope that they have taken better care of her since I’ve gone. If you think of her please send a little prayer her way. She is so precious.
