90-Day Challenge

magnolia bloom 90 Day Challenge

I mentioned last week that I have lost my mojo.  I’ve been a tad bogged down.  Lately, I’ve been listening to a series of talks through Integral Spiritual Experience, World’s Spirituality, and Feminine Power in an attempt to expand my mind and spirit.  It helps to be taking in such inspiration, but it is not enough.

I listened to a particularly poignant talk by August Gold the other day that sparked a little fire beneath my feet.  She spoke of how we all outgrow the pot in which we are planted and the necessity of being repotted as needed.  This resonates with me.

I think I’ve just been repotted and I’m going through replanting shock.  I’m a bit wilty and overwhelmed by the transition.  I haven’t sunk my roots deeply into my new place yet.

August Gold put forth a 90-day challenge.  It’s a challenge that can help empower one to reconnect and push those roots deep.  I’m going to take it; after all, I intend to bloom!

This is the challenge in a nutshell:

  1. Go on a 90-day media fast.
  2. Do a 15 minute morning practice
    • 5 minutes reading from a spiritual book
    • 5 minutes writing whatever comes to mind
    • 5 minutes sitting in silence

Since I already do yoga and meditation, the 15-minute practice will be easy, but the media fast will be a real challenge!  This means no television, no Facebook, no web surfing, no newspapers, or magazines, etc.

The idea is to take a break from all the “noise” in order to be able to connect with the still small voice.  This is what I know I need.

I’ll miss Facebook and So You Think You Can Dance but I know my roots will go deep and a healthy flower will bloom.

Would you like to join me in taking the 90-day challenge?  If so, send an email to me and I will tell you how I think we can support one another along the way, and feel free to share this entry with a friend.  If you’d like to listen to August Gold’s talk then go to Feminine Power and sign up for their free teleseminar.  There you will find her talk among many others.

My partner and I will begin on Wednesday June 16th.  We’d love to have you on the journey!

    I LOVE the photo…

Do I understand you’ll be refraining from e-mail as well? Phones?

No, no, Bob. I’ll do personal/professional email and phone, just no social or other media. Folks who want to do this can use the internet if their jobs require it. I’ll still post to my blog, for example. I will check my email but only a couple of times a day instead of all day long!

Carla, I am seriously considering joining you for the 90-Day Challenge. It feels a bit scary to let go of the noise, though– I’m realizing how much I cling to that noise. I think if I can stop and plan out what I will and won’t engage with, that I might be able to really do it… I do need to check email and do some of my activist work on the internet. I’ll try to connect with you a little bit later, I think, to feel it out.

Jen, I would be honored to have you along for the ride!

all right, this is a challenge i’m willing to invest in. Don’t have tv so that’s no problem. But been thinking how much i rely on fb for connection… and really how illusive that connection may be…. might not b easy, but i’m in!

  • Carla

Cool, Kendall! I’m very happy! More info coming your way soon.

    Hi Carla,

I would really like to do this challenge with you and Kendall. I am curious to see what happens when I unplug and can allow that time to be filled in with other things, free from distraction. I’ve been transitioning some myself, and look forward to a little space.

    Thank you
    Tintalle

Cool, Tintalle! I’ll be sending you an email soon. I’m so excited that you will be participating with us.

I read you blog just now as I am promising myself that I start tomorrow on a similar but somewhat different regimen, probably for 60 days — a near vegetarian diet [I'll eat fish], coupled with resuming the yoga I’ve let slide, and a five minute meditation; all this to, mainly, lose weight, but also make blood pressure better. Media is not a problem for me. I haven’t had a TV for 20 years, read only the NYTimes and New Yorker, follow a few blogs but not obsessively and don’t do the other social stuff on the web. My brain doesn’t feel foggy, but my body feel loggy. So I guess I’m not really in sync with you although I think our heads are in similar places. And it’s very good to read that others make such pledges. Very good luck.

June, I wish you the very best in your similar but different regimen. It sounds like a wonderful and perfect plan for you! Let me know how your 60 days go if you have the inclination. I’d love to hear. Love and light!

It’s often said that it takes 90 days to break a habit or learn a new one. I feel happy and inspired reading this blog post, and looking at the beautiful flower photograph at the top. It can be kind of humdrum and difficult to sustain disciplines on the hard days, but it really is how we press the reset button. Like painting your room, may this be the “prep” for something far more dramatic and obvious that will bloom from it!
