Practicing Gratitude

IMG 0609 Practicing GratitudeOften, gratitude helps me reframe my thoughts.  It’s been a difficult week in many respects, but I keep coming back to a profound sense of gratitude.  At times, it simply wells up in me.  Other times I have to intentionally call it to mind.  I call this practicing gratitude.

Like any other exercise, it takes intention and regular practice to build up my gratitude muscles.  Gratitude can bring a change in my thinking and attitude more quickly than most anything else.

I have so much to be grateful for and thinking on those things throughout the day helps when I’m feeling stressed. Recounting my blessings seems to bring me back to myself and into the present rather quickly.

I am deeply grateful for all the support my friends from near and far are offering me at this time.  I am grateful to be near my dad again after 25 years and the lovely shift in our relationship.  I am grateful for a gorgeous and peaceful place to live, with work that I love.  I am thankful to have powerful horse energy around me each day.  I am thankful for a partner who understands, supports, and loves me (even in my worst moments).  That just scratches the surface.  I am truly blessed and today it wells in me.

It does have a way of just welling up, doesn’t it? Wonderful post, so happy for you in your ability to find real gratitude now. Prayers and loving thoughts for you and your father. Horse energy is marvelous! I was fortunate enough to live on a horse farm for a while once. The horses made getting up in the morning so wonderful, the smell of hay and yes, horse manure (it does not smell like other animal’s manure, especially carnivores! been there, scooped that! in a large kennel) and warm, grass-scented horse breath blowing on you when it’s a bit chilly in the early morning is just so lovely. I miss that. Even the stallion screaming sometimes. Beautiful creatures and powerful. I am happy for you living in that beauty! Need to get the info from you some day about where to find caretaking jobs, that you mentioned once. Perhaps something I need to seriously consider.

Gratitude is one of the most difficult of all practices. And – yet – we must do so everyday. Sounds like you have much to be grateful for!!!
