pittbull Acceptance

I’m dog tired, but happy.  It has been a whirlwind week between the move, Daddy’s health, and learning a new caretaking job.  I’m still adjusting but I am as happy as a pig in a poke.  Gratitude has been welling up and spilling over for days.Pig 150x150 Acceptance

Yesterday I spent all afternoon with a dear friend (my college roommate!).  We had a lot of catching up to do after many years and we did so with great ease, even though we have chosen very different paths in life.  We barely skipped a beat.  It is so good to reconnect.  There is something special about one’s roots—both in home soil and in old friends, regardless of how things change.

I’m grateful that my old friend and I can reconnected with such ease, grace, and respect.  No judgment, just love.  I wish more folks would come together in that way.  I bet we could work through a myriad of issues if we approached one another with respect, openness, and presence.

What’s your experience in reconnecting with old friends?

Kind of well….the jury’s still out. I have had people I “knew” in high school ask me to accept a friend request on Facebook, then ask someone else if I graduated with them…on FB, where I could see it, instead of just asking me directly. I cannot recognize some from high school even though they say they graduated with my class. Some have no pictures, (took me a while to put one up, I don’t own a camera) some do and I still don’t recognize them from the picture, some don’t put down their maiden names, some are using their middle name or first name that I never knew them by. It is all just fine. I didn’t join FB for reconnection with HS people, I joined it to stay in touch with drum circle people I know now, and possibly to connect with information that will help me find a job. I’m not married and don’t have children so I seem to have little in common with most people, and anyway, they and I have been out of touch the whole time since graduation. Ditto college roommates. There are two people from High School I would like to reconnect with, and that would be great. How wonderful for you that your reconnection has been so beneficial and effortless. I await further contacts! I am in a different place than you in other respects, as well. I finally moved away from my home county in New Jersey and my parents have both passed on since I did that. I have no reason to go back there, the two I called friends disconnected with me a while ago, their choice, and my family members are spread out all over the country and none of them stayed where we grew up. So that is the way it is, for right now. Great you found caretaking work nearby where your father is.
