What Do You See?

IMG 3251 What Do You See?

Believe it or not, this is a photo of the side of an old barn.  These are the colors that were present there. I simply ran up the saturation to emphasize those colors; otherwise, you would only see browns and grays with extremely subtle–almost undetectable–blues, reds, and yellows.  And look at the design!  I would not have noticed the colors or the design if I hadn’t taken the time to pay extraordinarily close attention.

I wonder what I miss in my day-to-day life because I don’t pay close attention.  I wonder what I don’t hear or see.  I wonder what I misunderstand because I’m not really present.

So often, my preconceived ideas, assumptions, and judgments make it impossible to open to a larger perspective.  I can see in only one dimension without that larger perspective.  Life is too rich to have such a limited view.  I want to experience life in technicolor!  This requires that I let go of ego, judgments, and rigidity.

Seriously, what do you see?  I want to know because your eyes will help my eyes expand.

I see a woman struggling to climb upwards; or hanging on to something in water if we take in a traditional perspective of blue. I love this, Carla. Safe travels, gal. Are you stopping by the ‘burg en route?

Thanks, Jean! Yup, we’re driving into Blacksburg this weekend. From snow and cold, to warmth and sunshine!

My first thought was of a unicorn…

It makes me think of German Expressionist paintings of the early 20th century (a style I love)– like those who were in the group Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider”). Kandinsky, August Macke, Franz Marc… they were incredible painters.

I see a woman flying over a colorful landscape.

…I love your eye and sense of beauty.

Cool, Jen. I have Lady in a Green Jacket by August Macke. Love it.

Thank you, Jessica! I see a woman also but hadn’t thought of her as flying. I love how I expand as I take in the perspectives of others.
