While taking a break from packing (we move to GA in 4 days!), I started looking through some photos from my care taking time here in northeast PA. I came upon this photo of Missa and Brutus and had a good chuckle. I’ll miss those goats and pigeons!
Most of the pigeons scatter each morning when I arrive at the barn to do chores. Brutus, however, is feisty and couldn’t care less that I’m around. He used to wait for me to show up with the grain for the goats, and he would feed right along with them. I have actually seen Brutus head butt Missa! I’m not kidding! And Missa would gently head butt back but he was never dissuaded. Have you ever seen a goat and a pigeon head butt? It’s a hoot!
I appreciate Brutus’ panache. He’s a little fellow who knows what he wants and he goes for it despite the odds. I could learn a thing or two from Brutus. After all, it’s a doggy, doggy world (as an acquaintance used to say), and we simply have to step up and get into the mix if we want to thrive.
Somehow, Brutus has figured out ways to get his needs met while getting along with an ornery young goat. I wish we humans could figure out how to do the same instead of all the bickering that results in alienation from one other. But I reckon wishing never got me anywhere so I have to ask: what can I do to stop the bickering and alienation? Where do I begin? I’ll share some of my thoughts in tomorrow’s post.
How about you? What do you do in the face of all the political, relational bickering going on these days?
