I met this raccoon one winter when I lived in Virginia. I had a bird feeder right out my back window, and I would often sit in the window seat to watch the birds. One day I looked out and saw this raccoon trying to climb the feeder. The feeder was on a metal pole (later broken by a bear…but that’s another story!) that made climbing very difficult. I watched the raccoon try again and again to climb the pole only to get part way up, then slide back down. She was so persistent! I sat in my window seat laughing. She gave me quite a show, and not just that one day. She visited for several days. On this particular day, I raised the window, popped out the screen (at which point she ran up into the tree), and then I photographed her for several minutes. She seemed to watch me with as much curiosity as I watched her. We witnessed one another. I felt blessed.
